End in sight

End in Sight
It's been tough since about Nov at my workplace. Things are going smoothly after a rough patch but I just got through 2 weeks of hellish work. I hate compromising quality...especially when the limiting factor is time and not ability. On second thought...if it was my ability I would just feel inept, so I bet secretly I like the fact that it's a time contraint *heh* though i'll never openly admit that *wink*

Once this object conversion phase is over I get to do some great clean-up work where I get to push the quality of each environment asset i get my hands on. I will really enjoy that.

The end is in sight and I have my friend Daniel from montreal comming to visit for the week of Xmas. We might even gotio LA.

My plan after the new Year is to:

-settle down in this new apartment of mine and arrange the place to my liking.

-start the new phase of our project and take the reigns.

-begin to learn Maya

-start to learn melscript

-complete my website.

I would love to complete all these tasks by by my birthday (April)

Ross = Mobil

I got a car on Thursday. I have been finding every possible excuse to drive it too. One side-effect i don't like is the 'ability' to spend money on a whim once you can get anywhere at anytime. I'll manage.

Control is Overrated

I have been hearing a lot've talk about control lately. Assuming control, aserting control, losing control ect ect. Most guys I know try and control what is around them, want to control what is around them,....or, dont care. The one's who can't and don't care...let's ignore them for this blog entry.

Ok, I'll back up a bit...

I have this sphere of influence theory I picked up along the way, it goes like this:

We all have spheres of influence. Things like dodging an asteroid on a collision course for earth....that's kind of outside of your influence, and there isn't much you can do besides accept it.

Tieing your loose shoe lace on the otherhand is squarely inside of the typical adult persons' sphere most of the time.

If something is going to effect me, I want to asert control over it. This is usually considered an admirable quality; asserting control over the variables in your life. I disagree to a certain extent. Maybe asserting control ultimately removes absolute control.

whaa?

Let's use a total geek example (okay shut up..this is serious) the Star Wars prequils juxtaposed with The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Peter Jackson asserted an appropriate degree of control for LOTR's. He was a true auteur with those films but didnt try and control 'everything' and it showed. He let Fran and that other lady write good scripts, he deligated all kinds of things and it was a briliant production because of it.

If you look at Lucas and episodes 1, 2 and 3 though...you couldn't say the same. Lucas didn't deligate much, and because of that he stifled the creativity of his actors. This can be seen if you watch Garden State, Natalie Portman acts so well in that film, but in the prequils she seems as if she's just come off a soap opera.

So here it is...my point:
So, my conclusion is: asserting absolute control, to an extreme accually makes you inept when dealing with situations outside of your sphere of infleunce.

Successfully dealing with variables that are not within your control is the true sign of confidence, maturity and strength of character, and in my opinion is the 'ultimate' way to control your sphere of infleucne. This gives you control of the uncontrolable by refocusing you on issues you can address.

So that's it...I'm pretty clever eh?
